At least two great Universities- lots and lots of very educated people, tech, etc. San Francisco is very tolerant of many different life styles. Quality of life issues seem to be a little more important here, money too but not to the exclusion of anything else. Its' esthetically much more beautiful than L.A. or San Diego- the entire region is for that matter. The entire state is the worlds' tenth largest economy and while we are not all liberals we are very productive and know well how to make money. San Francisco is a very diverse city of many cultures and I suppose we all choose to get along. Its' so mush easier to work together that way. I feel lucky to have grown up and live here.

San Francisco has a very important and long-standing history as a refuge and destination for those who seek a more tolerant environment for their "unconventional" life styles. The Barbary coast thrived a 150 years ago during and after the California gold rush, harboring Prostitution, slavery, Opium use, and corrupt city government. After world war two: San Francisco became a magnet for tens of thousands of young people who decided to escape "home" after returning from overseas or a bad reputation in their hometowns In the 1950's, San Francisco became a haven for the "Beat Generation" along with Greenwich Village in NY City. Of course, the 1960's saw The City as a welcoming host for Hippies, with p[op songs extolling San Francisco as a welcoming home for a "new" generation and the popular San Francisco sound. drawing rock musicians like the Beatles to visit this center of free thought. In the 70's, San Francisco, now world famous for toleration of "alternative" lifestyles, saw the migration of 10's of thousands of Gay and Lesbians to the City by the Bay

It isn't the capital of Liberals. The United States is! It is sad you don't like the principles that America's foundation was laid upon! "Liberalism is a broad class of political philosophies that consider individual liberty to be the most important political goal. Liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. Within liberalism there are various streams of thought which compete over the use of the term "liberal" and may propose very different policies, but they are generally united by their support for a number of principles, including freedom of thought and speech, limitations on the power of governments, the rule of law, an individual's right to private property, free markets, and a transparent system of government. All liberals, as well as some adherents of other political ideologies, support some variant of the form of government known as liberal democracy, with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law. Modern liberalism has its roots in the Age of Enlightenment and rejected many foundational assumptions that dominated most earlier theories of government, such as the Divine Right of Kings, hereditary status, established religion, and economic protectionism. Liberals argued that economic systems based on free markets are more efficient and generate more prosperity. The first modern liberal state was the United States of America, founded on the principle that "all men are created equal- that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights- that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness- that to insure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed." wiki My concern is that apparently you don't agree with any of the above. What does that make your ilk?

It isn't at all. San Francisco, for all the hype, is notnearly as liberal as most people believe

Man the hippies are long gone, you obviously haven't been there in a long time. I saw Robin Williams coming out of his house the last time I was there, pretty cool place.

Because it's the center of "Ecotopia," the la la, fairy tale land of the neo-Marxist faux-liberals. I suspect it's from the large collection of spoiled and sheltered students at the universities. That's where the neo-Marxist faux-liberal attitude was developed and is retained.

it's gotten a lot more conservative, actually, because it's gotten so darn expensive, the hippies and artists can't really afford it. but yeah, we're so liberal we call ourselves progressive. which just means we believe in taking care of each other, and not controlling each other's personal lives. people can do what they want in terms of sex, personal drug use, unique ways of making a living, etc. you're free to really be yourself, and so it attracts people from all over the country who feel at home here. people come here to become themselves, to grow into their true selves, and SF gives them the freedom to do that.

No moral standard, drug use rampant and accepted, prostitution about to be legalized, hatred of the military, and it's a refuge city for illegals where the mayor has ordered his police not to arrest illegal aliens.

You make an assertion about San Francisco and then admit to knowing nothing about it?
