Because Democrats actually prevent abortion better than the Republicans do. It is a fact that there are far fewer abortions under a Democrat run presidency than a Republican presidency. All you have to do to verify this is go to the department of health's or planned parenthood's website and you will see that every time we have had a democrat in office since Roe v. Wade there have been far fewer abortions than when a republican is in office. How could this be? Well, Democrats tend to implement numerous economic programs for the poor. Somewhere around 85% of abortions occur because the woman or couple feel that they cannot afford a baby. When there are more welfare/economic programs for the lower income people, they are less likely to get an abortion. You will also notice on those websites that abortions seldomly occur among people in the middle class to upper class. What this tells you is that abortion is primarily a problem with the lower class and the reason for it is generally an economic reason. The Republicans have been fooling pro-lifers for so many years now. And yet, Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bush Jr. were all staunch pro-lifers and never banned abortion. The Supreme Court has also made it clear that they will not overturn Roe v. Wade claiming that they respect precedent. Thus, the best you can do if you are pro-life is to prevent as many abortions as you possibly can. The only way to do this is to support economic programs for the poor, which is exactly what the Democrats do. God bless!!

Sensible Catholics (there are some of us out here) are not one-issue voters and we are told to not be one issue voters. We are told that some things are more intrinsically evil than others, but that we could vote for someone with a bad position without endorsing that moral position. A lot of us weigh in other things, like the war in Iraq (which the pope is wholeheartedly against). This war in Iraq cannot be justified with just war theology, so why would we endorse it? Also, the death penalty is almost never seen as justifiable in the Catholic Church. If you want to actually call yourself pro-life, you need to be against abortion, war, and the death penalty. You also should be for providing health care to the less fortunate. Otherwise you're pro-life in name only, and your actions and positions are not in line with being truly pro-life. I'm a pro-lifer who voted Democrat on the abortion issue because Republicans do a lot of talking, but never do anything about it. Teen pregnancy and abortion tend to be reduced under Democratic presidents because they have a sensible approach to such topics, rather than a nonsensical, knee jerk reaction. Abortion disproportionately affects minority and poor women. Basically, people having these abortions feel like they only have one option. Who's going to help them feel otherwise? Republican leadership or Democratic leadership?

People who try to comment on religion who know nothing about it make me laugh. The bible says an eye for an eye- Israel was constantly at war, and is a conservative book with conservative teachings- like Catholicism. Blue is a plague that the drunks in Massachusetts caught from the Kennedy's. Most people aren't one issue voters and being a Democrat and being from the upper Northeast goes hand in hand- most of the Southern Catholics I knew despised Obama. I guarantee all Republicans don't want Islam eradicated- worship who you want to is this Republicans idea.

God gave everyone freewill. You won't burst into flames for voting for Obama as some hardcore catholics will have you believe. Anyway, shouldn't we work on helping those poor and less fortunate people now before we go bringing more into this world. Republicans don't want abortion, but once the baby is born they don't give a dam what happens to it as long as it's alive. Anyway, for a party that touts itself as pro-life they sure as hell don't seem to care much about our soldiers dying, healthcare victims, or capital punishment. If we were to make it illegal it would not stop, it would just move to back alleys and put mothers in more danger. Nobody wants abortion, not even democrats, they just have better ideas that make more sense in the long run.

Because Democrats are for the advancement of society. Democrats want minorities to have a better opportunity for success. Democrats want to help Darfur and other struggling communities around the world starting with our very own here in America. Republicans want to make the rich richer and the poor poorer with tax benefits for the upper class, is that what Jesus would do? i don't think so... so Catholic Democrats like me believe we need to fix society before we bring more people into an impoverished, high society run, world that we live in.

As a catholic born and raised their the same as all religions they fill your head with propaganda crap. Why do all these southern and Midwestern religions keep voting in these Baptist and other religious politicians only to find out the terrible things they do. If I was young again and wanted to make a lot of money I would probably become a minister. That's where all the money and power is. Then when they get caught for something that makes you want to puke. They say Oh please forgive me I'm week I failed the lord and people cry and send them more money.Read books by george carlin you 'll go to heaven faster. God be with you!

So what is the republican party going to do about abortion. We had 4 republican presidents in the past 35 years and none of them did anything about it. Ask your self this questions why arent you angry at the republican party for giving people hope and never coming through for 35 years and 4 presidents. No one follows everything that is taught in a religion, its just not possible, just like no one 100% follow the law.

Not all Catholics agree all catholic teachings. There are Catholics who are pro choice just like there are Catholics who use birth control. I'm sure you know some. I'm also sure you realize that being catholic is more than simply having a check list of positions. BTW, there is distinct difference between being pro choice and "endorsing" abortion.

Because you are not supposed to mix religion and politics. Either way you aren't just voting for one issue, you should be looking at the bigger picture. In the end supporting an issue is actually doing something about it. Therefore the majority of Catholics don't partake in the action making it honestly the best way to not support it.

There is a book called “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship,” The “Faithful Citizenship” guidelines do say that “as Catholics we are not single-issue voters” and that “there may be times when a Catholic who rejects a candidate’s unacceptable position may decide to vote for that candidate for other morally grave reasons” . They also say “that all issues do not carry the same moral weight and that the moral obligation to oppose intrinsically evil acts has a special claim on our consciences and our actions. These decisions should take into account a candidate’s commitments, character, integrity, and ability to influence a given issue. In the end, this is a decision to be made by each Catholic guided by a conscience formed by Catholic moral teaching”. Check it out.

Anybody ordered abortion pill from womensweb?
I live in the USA (where abortion is legal), so I've never had to use the Women on Web website... but from what I understand, everything about the website is completely genuine. I did research on this website a while back for a school project I was doing on abortion, and it is legitimate. They...

How can liberals object to the Texas law on abortion when it protects the health of women?
This law is not unconstitutional. The Supreme Court decided that it was not worth hearing. So that argument does not hold water. This law basically states that the doctor who is performing a medical procedure has admitting rights to a hospital just in case there is a problem. For example...

For those who are Pro-Choice, what would you think if you came face to face with a survivor of abortion?
