What happens during a surgical abortion? During your visit you will read through and fill out paperwork, have a counseling session, and sign consent forms. After all of your questions have been answered, an ultrasound will be done to verify the gestation of your pregnancy. Once it is determined that you are within your first trimester, we can safely perform the abortion – this usually takes 10-12 minutes. During the procedure we use a local anesthetic so you will be awake during the procedure. The anesthetic numbs the area around the cervix so that the doctor can open the cervix with sterile rounded-tipped rods without causing pain. Depending on the gestation of the pregnancy, the doctor will empty the uterus using either a hand held suction device or a suction machine. After the procedure is complete you will be here another 20 to 30 minutes or until you feel well enough to drive home. All together, plan on being here for 2 hours. What does the abortion feel like? Most women say the procedure feels like moderate to severe menstrual cramps that last for about 5 minutes. You will be offered some medication to help with this discomfort and your counselor will talk with you about different ways you can help relax your body – the more relaxed you are, the more comfortable the procedure is. How long does it take to recover? After an abortion you will probably have some cramping and bleeding and you should rest for the remainder of the day. Most women say they feel back to normal the following day. It is important not to do any heavy lifting or excessively hard physical work/exercise for a couple of days, as these activities will increase your cramping and bleeding.

I've never had one done, but from what I know (one of my instructors used to work in an abortion clinic as a APRN) of it basically they use a small apparatus with suction (like a vacuum) to suck up and extract the lining of the uterus. Before doing this they will probably give you something to ripen the cervix to allow entry into the uterus, they may also give you something to "bulk up" so to say the lining of the uterus...I forget what the purpose of this is... and after extracting the contents they will give you another pelvic exam later on. You wil probably be sedated for the procedure, and I believe I heard my instructor say in some cases they may even put you to sleep. They will also give you something for pain and to prevent infection when you go home. You can expect to have some uncomfortable cramping and spotting.

at the time i had general anaesthetic apparently only out for 10 mins after wards allowed home after an hour and having something to eat. cramp/ uncomfortable for about 24 hrs after that return back to normal duties(family and work) next day no after effects(emotionally i was stable enough to make that desicion and it was the right one for me and my family so no regrets!) so if this is what you are going through personally good luck and hope you recover well!

How are some ways you can terminate an early pregnancy?
Well the only way to kill (terminate) a pregnancy is an abortion. If there is not a pregnancy yet (if you JUST had sex under 4 or 5 days ago) then she needs to take a Plan B pill, which she can go to the doctor and he will prescribe or if she is 18 she can buy it at the pharmacy. I seriously...

Why shouldn't abortion be a woman's choice?
simply, this is a spiritual issue - it gets down to the core of humanity, and unfortunately, we cannot all agree and never will in this lifetime. the bible says we are created in the image and likeness of God, and the wages of sin is death. since we all have sinned, we live in a fallen world...

Abortion. Did the rate of it decrease, stay the same, or increase under George W. Bush?
Both the total number of abortions and the percentage rate have been falling steadily for years, including during the Bush administration. Right now the rate of abortions per thousand is roughly half what it was in 1974, the first full year after the Roe v. Wade decision.

Painful abortion? please help.?
I understand that you are angry with yourself, but i don't think you need to get a "painful" abortion. You obviously feel bad as it is. An abortion in itself is painful enough to your body and mind. Both will hurt, the medical abortion will hurt and you will have KILLER cramps and the surgical...

Abortion and religion question. 10 pts.?
What the Bible says about Abortion Abortion is not murder. A fetus is not considered a human life. If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him- and...
